About the Versant Test
8. What is the Versant English test?
The Versant English Speaking and Listening Test is an automated spoken English assessment developed by Pearson. It takes approximately 17 to 20 minutes to complete and scores on a 10–90 scale called the Global Scale of English (GSE), which maps directly to CEFR levels (A1 to C2). Results appear within minutes of finishing.
9. What are the six parts of the Versant test?
The Versant test has six parts. Part A is short answer questions. Part B is sentence repetition. Part C is conversation questions. Part D is passage questions. Part E is story retelling (30 seconds). Part F is open-ended opinion questions (40 seconds). Parts E and F are the two extended-speaking sections.
10. How is the Versant test scored?
Versant scores four areas: Sentence Mastery, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Pronunciation. These combine into an overall score from 10 to 90. The score maps to a CEFR level. Scoring is fully automated by AI — no human rater is involved.
11. What is a good Versant score for BPO?
It depends on the role. Basic IT and non-voice roles typically accept 47–58. General customer service voice roles require 58–65. Premium international voice accounts need 65–70. Companies set their own thresholds privately and do not publish exact cutoffs.
12. How long does the Versant test take?
Approximately 17 to 20 minutes, including the instructions and microphone check. You will be finished within 30 minutes from start.
13. When do Versant results appear?
Scores are typically available within 2 to 5 minutes of finishing the test, though this can vary depending on your internet connection.
14. Can I retake the Versant test?
This depends entirely on the organisation that asked you to take it. For BPO recruitment, candidates typically take Versant as a screening step — if the score does not meet the requirement, the application usually does not progress. Retake policies vary by employer. Check with your recruiter.
15. What is the difference between Versant and TOEIC?
Versant measures spoken English only — listening and speaking. TOEIC (L&R) measures reading and listening. A high TOEIC score does not predict a high Versant score. The skills are different and require different preparation.
