Versant Pro Trainer: A Better Way to Practise, Understand and Improve

Practise. Understand. Improve. Repeat.

Grant Prentice10 min readSeptember 2026

Hi everyone, Grant here from Kōjō Communication Academy.

For some learners, Versant is part of a long-term English-learning journey.

For others, it is much more immediate.

You may have a job interview coming up, with a Versant test as one of the first steps in the recruitment process. You may already have the English skills you need, but only have a limited amount of time to prepare.

In that situation, you don’t necessarily need to study English for months.

You need to understand the test, identify where you are losing points, and focus your practice on the things you can improve right now.

That’s one of the reasons we’ve been working so hard on the latest version of Versant Pro Trainer.

We’ve taken another close look at the entire practice and review experience, with one important question in mind:

How can we help learners make the most of the English they already have?

1. A Cleaner, More Modern Versant Pro Trainer

The first thing you’ll notice is that Versant Pro Trainer looks different.

We’ve redesigned the interface to make it easier to navigate, easier to understand and more comfortable to use, whether you’re practising on a computer, tablet or phone.

We’ve also reconsidered how much information is presented at different points in the experience.

In particular, the review pages contained a lot of valuable detail. The challenge was deciding what learners really needed to see immediately after completing a practice, and what could be presented more simply.

The result is a cleaner and more focused experience that makes it easier to find the information that matters.

2. Better Tutorials for Every Part of the Test

We’ve also completely refreshed the tutorials throughout Versant Pro Trainer.

The new tutorials are clearer, more visually engaging and more focused on helping you understand how to approach each part of the Versant test before you start practising.

The better you understand the task, the more productive your practice can be.

This is particularly important when you are preparing under time pressure. If you only have a few days to prepare, spending that time figuring out what each question requires is not the best use of your preparation time.

You should be able to understand the task, practise it, review your performance and focus on what you need to improve.

3. Faster and Smoother Practice

We’ve also made major improvements behind the scenes.

A lot of work has gone into how the app loads and delivers its practice content, with particular attention to mobile performance.

That means less waiting, smoother navigation and a more responsive experience when moving between practice sets, questions and review pages.

If you’re fitting Versant practice around work, interviews or other commitments, those small improvements can make it easier to get a focused practice session done whenever you have the time.

4. See Your Progress at a Glance

When you’re preparing for a test, it helps to know whether your practice is actually making a difference.

The new Your Progress section gives you a clearer picture of your recent performance.

You can see your recent scores, average performance, strongest and weakest areas, trends and test readiness.

This can help you move beyond simply doing one practice after another.

Instead, you can start to identify where your attention is most useful.

What should I work on next?

That’s a much more useful question when your preparation time is limited.

5. Make Every Practice Session Count

When you’re preparing for a test as part of a recruitment process, you may not have weeks or months to study.

You might have 15 minutes before work. You might have time for one practice session after dinner. You might only have a few days before your test.

That’s why focused practice matters.

With Versant Pro Trainer, you can practise a specific part of the test, review your response, identify an area to improve, and then practise that skill again.

Instead of simply doing more and more practice tests, you can use each practice session to learn something about your performance.

Practise. Review. Improve. Repeat.

6. A New Approach to Reviewing Your Answers

This is probably the biggest change in the update.

We’ve spent a lot of time looking at how the information in a review can best support learning.

The previous review pages contained a lot of useful information, including detailed speech metrics and AI feedback. But we realised that there was sometimes simply too much information to take in immediately after a short practice session.

So we’ve reorganised the experience around the questions learners are most likely to have:

How did I do?

What did I do well?

What could I improve?

And what can I do differently next time?

The aim is not to remove useful information. It is to make the most important information easier to understand and easier to use.

7. From Scores to Understanding

The new review experience makes the details of your actual response much easier to understand and use.

For example, depending on the part of the test, Versant Pro Trainer can help you identify things such as:

  • Which words you missed
  • Which words you added
  • Which words you mispronounced
  • Pronunciation and fluency issues
  • Hesitations and filler words
  • Speaking rate
  • Grammar mistakes
  • Vocabulary issues
  • Areas where your response could be clearer or better developed

These details give you much more than a score.

They help you understand what actually happened during your response and give you something specific to work on.

A score tells you where you are.

The right feedback can help show you how to move forward.

8. More Specific, More Actionable Feedback

The AI feedback has also been refined to make it more specific and more useful as part of the learning process.

The focus is on the details that can help you make a practical improvement.

For example:

Which words did you miss?

Which words did you add?

Which words did you mispronounce?

Was there a grammar or vocabulary problem?

And importantly:

What could you do differently next time?

The feedback is designed to help you understand the issue and then make a manageable improvement.

For example, instead of simply showing you what a highly advanced speaker might say, Versant Pro Trainer can show you how your own response could be improved one step at a time.

That makes the feedback more relevant to where you are now and gives you a realistic next step.

9. Your Answer, Upgraded

This idea is particularly important for Part E and Part F, where there can be many possible ways to give a good answer.

Instead of simply presenting a perfect model answer, Versant Pro Trainer can take your response and show you how it could be developed.

Maybe you need to include one more important point.

Maybe your answer could be organised more clearly.

Maybe you could give a better reason or example.

Maybe there is a more natural way to express one of your ideas.

The goal is not to replace your answer with someone else’s.

It is to show you how you can improve the answer you already gave.

You don’t need to jump from where you are now to perfect English.

Sometimes the most useful improvement is simply the next step.

10. Get More from the English You Already Have

This is particularly important when you are preparing for a job-related Versant test.

You may already be capable of communicating effectively in English, but your test performance may not fully reflect that ability.

Perhaps you haven’t become comfortable with the format yet.

Perhaps you are missing words when repeating sentences.

Perhaps hesitation is affecting your fluency.

Perhaps your answers are too short when you need to develop an idea.

Perhaps you have the vocabulary to express your ideas, but aren’t using it effectively under time pressure.

These are different problems, and they require different solutions.

The latest version of Versant Pro Trainer is designed to help you identify those opportunities and focus your limited preparation time where it can be most useful.

You don’t always need to learn more English. Sometimes you need to make better use of the English you already have.

11. The Goal Hasn’t Changed

When I first built Versant Pro Trainer, the goal was to make meaningful Versant practice possible.

With Versant Pro Trainer 2.0, we took another major step by improving the scoring system and combining speech analysis with AI-powered language feedback.

This latest update builds on both of those ideas.

The goal hasn’t changed.

Practise. Understand. Improve. Repeat.

What has changed is the way we are bringing these elements together.

We want Versant Pro Trainer to give you realistic practice, useful feedback and a clearer understanding of your performance, while helping you make the most of the time you have available.

Whether you’re preparing for a job interview, working towards a required Versant score, or simply looking to improve your English speaking performance, we want every practice session to give you something useful to take forward.

And we’ll keep working on it.

We’ll continue adding and improving features and functions that can make Versant Pro Trainer more useful, more accessible and more effective for learners.

If you have suggestions, comments or ideas about how we can make Versant Pro Trainer better, we’d genuinely love to hear them.
